Camp GLOW partners with SPBD Tonga
Two SPBD Tonga staff members recently participated as “Model Mommas” in partnership with Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World). Camp GLOW is a week-long leadership camp organized by United States Peace Corps volunteers serving in Tonga. Campers attend sessions on critical thinking, decision making, leadership, HIV/AIDS awareness, domestic violence, and more. Another large component of the camp is career exploration. The girls spend half a day shadowing local career women as a way to learn more about future careers.
This year, Vasi Falepani hosted Siaongo ‘Ata Latuhoi, a Form 3 student at Tonga High School. After spending time with Vasi, Siaongo said, “At SPBD I learned about different job responsibilities and what to expect in my future”. Kalo Pakileata hosted Susitina Ta’ai, a Form 3 student at Apifo’ou College. Susitina spent time out in the field, and had a unique opportunity to learn about microfinance operations. Thanks to both Vasi and Kalo for taking the time to share with these girls.
